For half a century, Surgical Arts of St. Louis has done one thing, and done it well — brought sophisticated, big-hospital surgical care to the people of St. Louis with the attentiveness of a community practice.
Over the decades, the practice has widened into a rare breadth of care: general surgery, vascular surgery, colorectal surgery, the Vascular Institute, advanced wound care and breast surgery. The team grew alongside that scope — from its founding partner to fourteen surgeons — and followed its patients across the St. Louis region, bringing the care they need closer to home.
Founded in June 1976, it has grown into one of the region’s most comprehensive independent surgical practices, today part of SSM Health Medical Group, in partnership with Surgical Arts of St. Louis.
From the everyday operations a community depends on to the technically demanding work few practices take on — handled by surgeons who have done it for decades.
Gallbladder disease, appendix disease, hernias, skin masses and cancers.
Abdominal aortic aneurysm repair, peripheral vascular disease, limb salvage, carotid disease, and venous insufficiency.
Hemorrhoids, diverticulitis, cancer.
Maintenance of AV grafts, fistulas, Peritoneal Dialysis Catheters.
Complex and chronic wounds.
Benign disease, breast cancer — includes hidden scar, high risk.
Sophisticated, complex procedures performed close to home — the care patients once had to travel downtown for, now within reach in their own community.
Whether a large operation through small incisions or a vascular problem solved without a single open wound, the practice does the technically demanding thing in the least invasive way possible.
Surgeons here stay for careers, not seasons. That longevity — measured in decades — has made the practice a trusted name to generations of families and the physicians who refer to them.
Expertise across general, vascular and colorectal surgery — including the Vascular Institute, advanced wound care, breast surgery, robotic surgery, and minimally invasive vascular intervention.
Board-certified surgeons supported by nurse practitioners and dedicated staff — a team built so that surgical judgment, not volume, sets the pace of care.
Beyond their own exam rooms, our surgeons hold the chairs their hospitals and colleagues entrust to them.
One practice, woven across the map of St. Louis — meeting patients closer to where they live.
